A Notice About the Federal Carbon Charge
Effective April 1st, 2019

As part of the general government’s carbon reduction plan, a new carbon charge applies to all fossil fuels sold in Ontario. This includes natural gas. It is effective on April 1st, 2019. The federal carbon charge for natural gas will be 3.91 cents per cubic meter increasing annually each April. All the money that we collect for the federal carbon charge goes to the federal government.

How Does This Impact You?

It is forecasted that for the average Six Nations Natural Gas residential customer, this will add about $89 to your annual natural gas bill. Customers of Six Nations Natural Gas will see this monthly cost on their monthly bills as a separate line item beginning with the April 2019 invoice. The federal government has indicated Ontario residents will receive a tax-free climate action incentive payment after filing their 2018 tax return. This amount will more than cover the cost of the carbon charge for 2019. Commercial customers might be eligible to receive a full or partial exemption from the federal carbon charge.
